Indian Orchard children and teens can develop their artistic sides through a series of free workshops at the Indian Orchard Branch of the Springfield City Library this summer. Professional artist instructor will focus on sculpture and related techniques in the small classes to be held on Wednesdays for teens and Saturdays for children ages 8-12. The Library is located at 44 Oak Street in the Indian Orchard section of Springfield. The teen classes will be held from 4:30 to 6:00 pm, July 9 - August 13, and the children’s classes will be held from 12:30 to 2:00 pm, July 12 - August 23 (no class on July 19). Pre-registration is required; call 263-6846 to enroll.
Funding for the workshops is provided by a three year, $15,000 grant from the Hampden Bank Charitable Foundation. According to Robert A. Massey, Treasurer of the Hampden Bank Charitable Foundation, “Joining with the Springfield City Library, we have an opportunity to continue our support of the youth of Springfield and help make a profound difference in the lives of our neighbors. As the only bank still headquartered in Springfield, Hampden Bank is totally committed to being an active partner in this community. This is significantly important to all of us and a focal point of our business plan.” New classes will be offered starting in the fall.
