Gallery 137, a project of the Indian Orchard Main Street Partnership, is intended to provide Indian Orchard with economic, cultural, and educational benefits. The gallery project anchors the Partnership’s plan to develop and promote an attractive and vital arts district in the neighborhood, expanding the arts presence from the Dane Gallery, artist’s studios in the Indian Orchard Mills complex, and Art Walk to Main Street. The gallery is available for private meetings and events.
This is an important step towards establishing historic Indian Orchard as a popular destination for experiencing and purchasing art. This positive cultural economic activity will serve as a catalyst for related business growth and development. Emphasis on arts and culture at the neighborhood level will have a great impact on civic pride and quality of life in addition to providing an economic lift for the City of Springfield as a whole. Working to foster cultural synergy within the arts community and between neighborhoods is a strategy certain to deliver valuable benefits. Gallery 137 is an integral part of the collaborative Springfield Neighborhood Arts Initiative, which also includes Forest Park neighborhood's Bing Arts Center, scheduled to open in the spring of 2008.
